Enlightened Christianity?

This blogger was reading a post on Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution Is True blog concerning the views of an Andrew Sullivan.  Mr. Sullivan apparently is an intellegent gay Catholic who attempts to reconcile science and religion.

During the post, Coyne quotes an email he received from Sigmund, of Sneer Review blog fame.  In this quote was the following statement about the actual religion of intelligent Christians who are trying to keep their faith in light of science:

It’s really a form of deism with the added guest appearance of a magical superhero called Jesus.
