This blogger has posted many times on the psychological phenomenon of "compartmentalization", or the holding of conflicting beliefs. David Gorski has posted on the Science-Based Medicine blog a troubling example of the effect of compartmentalization in the area of alternative medicine.
Francis Collins is the NIH Director and noted scientist who is also a Fundamentalist Christian. It appears that Dr. Collins' mental compartment keeping his irrational ideas separate from his science has developed a leak. What's the harm?
