Religion And Health: A Double-Edged Sword

Tomas Rees has posted on the double-edged sword of religious worship and health.  The money quote:
Overall, because there are more ill-educated people than educated ones, religious attendance has a beneficial effect. But the benefit really accrues to the ill-educated. For the educated, religion (at least, the kind of religion widely practiced in the USA) might actually be harmful.

Home Remedies

Many of the health recommendations floating around cyberspace (or mentioned around the water cooler, for that matter) are recognized by the science-based medical community as worthless at best and harmful quackery at worst. However, the Mayo Clinic is publishing a book called The Mayo Clinic Book of Home Remedies: What to Do for the Most Common Health Problems.

Harriet Hall in the Science-Based Medicine blog has written a favorable report regarding this publication.

This blogger recommends consideration of this as a reference book to keep in the home to use prior to consulting a medical professional for non-emergency problems. It is available as a pre-order from Amazon.com.
